The Workforce Training Plumbing program readies you to use hand and power tools correctly, calculations related to the plumbing trade, and standard industry safety practices.

The Plumbing Program supplies the skills students need in a short, 160-hour / 14-week training session.

After completing your studies, you’ll:

  • Be able to register as an Apprentice Plumber in the state of Texas
  • Receive a TSC Certificate of Completion
  • Receive OSHA 10 Certification

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) offers the Office of Apprenticeship (OA) program, which provides support and oversight for apprenticeship programs.

Apprenticeship programs in the construction trade usually include on-the-job training and classroom instruction and can lead to a journey-level status in the trade of your choice.

The DOL works with employers, industry associations, and other partners to develop and register apprenticeship programs for national standards for quality and safety.

The DOL’s OA also provides funding, technical assistance, and other resources to support apprenticeship programs and helps promote apprenticeship as a viable career pathway for those working to enter or advance in their trade.

3 Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend

Here, you can learn the skills for jobs as entry-level plumbers in the construction, industrial, and maintenance industries.

Students register with the U. S. Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT) and earn on-the-job training (OJT) hours working with sponsors.

You’ll train to install, repair, and troubleshoot repairs to pipes, fixtures, fittings, and other plumbing equipment for water distribution, venting, and wastewater disposal in homes, institutional, commercial, and industrial buildings.

After finishing the coursework and on-the-job training hours, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.

Skills You’ll Learn:

  • Using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, and plastic solvent, assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend the pipe to the angle of your choice.
  •  Observe pressure gauges to locate leaks by filling pipes or plumbing fixtures with air or water.
  • Install pipe assemblies, valves, fittings in appliances like dishwashers and water heaters, fixtures, including the ever-popular sinks and toilets.
  • Locate and observe the position of pipe installations, passage holes, connections, and building fixtures.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing or mending broken pipes.
  • Create openings in buildings to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings.
  • Read, understand, and interpret blueprints.

The Apprenticeship-Electrical & Plumbing is $600 per semester in a four-year program.

This open-enrollment course is self-paced, so you work and finish at your own pace.
