About the School

Clearwater Trade School opened its doors in 2021 and has quickly earned an excellent reputation.

Wayne Ritchie, a Master Plumber with Tampa Bay Plumbing, founded the school.

He and his brother, Lance, have been working in the plumbing industry since 1976 and were first licensed in New Zealand before coming to the United States.

Courses Offered

Clearwater Trade School works with apprentices’ employers, making the tuition more affordable.

The program begins with 240 hours of in-class instruction, where students must take in-person and online tests.

Students must first complete the core curriculum, which is 80 hours, and is an online self-study course.

When the core curriculum is complete, there are four levels of training, and the courses will get more challenging as students move on through their training.

When the in-class training is complete, students must complete 1680 hours of apprenticeship with a sponsoring company and will be tested regularly on what they’ve learned.

They must also provide proof of their time to move on to the next semester.

When the course is complete, students will receive their NCCER certification, which is recognized internationally.

Students who put in 240 hours of in-class training and 2,000 job training hours per year will be certified Journeymen or Master Plumbers/Gas Fitters in as little as four years.

Penn Foster is an entirely online school that allows students to learn at their own pace at home, allowing them to continue working full-time while going to school.
