At Plumbers Local 12 of Boston, you’ll get advanced training that’s designed to get you ready to become a journeyman plumber for the region.

The apprentices of this training program will have five years of comprehensive training and will be able to get a license to practice in this field.

Members can gain advanced skills like a certification in welding and medical gas training.

Members don’t have to pay for their training the same as non-union workers would have to pay.

You can get hot work training, Journeyperson training, and advanced certification in various specialty areas such as medical gas brazing and installation, welding, crane signaling, master review/tier 5, OSHA 30-hour course, fujitsu-mini splits, and hybrid programs with basic electricity and EPA CFC recovery.

2 Northeast Metro Tech High School

About the School

Northeast Metro Tech has a Plumbing and Pipefitting training program where students will learn the science behind the trade, business practices related to plumbing and pipefitting, blueprint reading, how to use tools of the trade, and code compliance, among other things.

They offer hands-on training through the community-based work projects, cooperative education program, and the student house building program.

Students who graduate from this program will receive hours towards licensing requirements for the state of Massachusetts.

Courses start at 9th grade with introductory level topics and work known as Exploratory and Shop with the basic use of tools and knowledge about pipefitting, including the types of pipes and fittings.

10th grade builds on these and adds on blueprint and installation instruction.

11th grade students learn more advanced details about installation, drainage, water, and gas supply systems.

12th grade students learn how to read and sketch mechanical drawings as well as design plumbing systems and may be eligible to work at the offsite Cooperative Education program.

The plumbing program at The Peterson School offers not only basic courses towards certification, but also continuing education courses that will keep you current on the techniques and tools used for this career field.

The basic plumbing program is $1,450 tuition and lasts 15 weeks for 90 completion hours.

This training program is offered for the Tier 1 level and doesn’t require you to have an apprentice license.

5 Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical School

About the School

Students who attend this vocational high school can enter the workforce and be apprentice plumbers, apprentice pipefitters, and technicians.

You can earn the 10-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Course Certification.

The Shop Hours and Tier 1 and Tier 2 for Plumbing will be approved by the Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters, though you will need a state license.
