Colorado is a state that encompasses the majority of the southern portion of the Rocky Mountains.

Do Electricians Need A License in Colorado?
Electricians working anywhere in the state of Colorado are required to hold a license issued by the state’s Department of Regulatory Agencies – DORA.
To begin, all trainees or apprenticeships must be registered and then find a licensed electrician under which to train as they gain enough experience to qualify for the licensing exam.
Colorado features several types of electrician licenses:
- Residential Wireman – at least 2 years and 4,000 hours of residential work experience.
- Journeyman Electrician – at least 4 years and 8,000 hours of experience – of which half must be commercial or industrial experience. There are also education requirements of at least 288 classroom instruction hours.
- Master Electrician – one of the following criteria –
- at least one year with 2,000 hours of construction experience AND a graduate electrical degree from an accredited higher learning institution. -OR-
- at least four years with 8,000 hours of experience AND a graduate electrical degree from an accredited higher learning institution. -OR-
- at least one year with 2,000 hours of construction experience, AND the applicant has met all the journeyman licensing requirements.

2 IntelliTec College in Colorado Springs
For the past five decades, IntelliTec College in Colorado Springs has been offering electrician and other trade training programs to aspiring electricians in southern Colorado.
Intellitec’s electrician training program is a hands-on program supplemented by traditional classroom work.
After passing their licensing requirements, graduates may find work rewarding as journeymen, inside or residential wiremen, electricians, and more.
Students who complete this 54-certificate program typically take less than eleven months to finish.

3 Southern Colorado Springs Electrical
The JATC of Southern Colorado offers an electrician training program for those who wish to be professional electricians.
This program for inside apprentice and installer technicians requires applicants to be a high school grad or hold a GED equivalent, proof of age, a valid driver’s license, etc.
In addition to field training, the program includes classes in low-volt VDV, AC/DC theory, pipe bending, motor controls, fire alarm systems, and more.
