The training program at Trident Technical College for Phlebotomy is a non-credit course.
However, it will in part prepare you for the national certification exam (after you take 100 hours of clinical training and 4 hours of BLS/CPR training on top of your 72 hours of classroom training.
While in this program, you’ll learn practical and theoretical knowledge such as selecting and preparing a site on the patient for venipuncture, collecting specimens, preparing and maintaining equipment, and establishing a professional patient/healthcare staff relationship.
You’ll also gain a full understanding of the legal aspects of this career, and health and safety matters involved in the field.

2 The Technical College of the Lowcountry
This school has campuses in Beaufort, Bluffton, Varnville, and Walterboro, with the campus in Walterboro being the closest to Charleston SC.
You’ll receive in-class instruction and hands-on clinical training through this program.
The tuition is $725 at this time and there are additional costs for your books and other supplies.
At the completion of your time in the program, you’ll be eligible to work as an entry-level phlebotomist.
You’ll have to take a national examination if you want to be a certified phlebotomist.
Courses in this program will include those that teach you to obtain blood specimens properly using capillary dermal puncture, winged infusion sets and more, use effective communication skills, perform infection prevention, and use proper medical terminology.
You’ll also learn Human Anatomy & Physiology and about the Circulatory System.

3 Charleston Phlebotomy Training Specialists
You can take this program on weekday mornings, weekday evenings, or weekends (which is a longer class).
It has a “Student for Life” policy and allows you to enter the classroom at any time, depending on availability, if you need to review or brush up on skills.
Tuition is about $1000 and you will have to pay about $100 for the exam fee.
There are 48 hours of in-class training that consists of bookwork, hands-on experience, and a practical exam.
This prepares you to conduct blood draws, use medical devices for greater use at finding veins and conducting blood draws, understand medical terms and some anatomy & physiology, among other things.
On the last class day, you may choose to take the National Exam if you feel as though you’re ready for it.
