Unlike with other states, Hawaii only accepts candidates that are over the age of 21, so you’ll have to show your birth certificate.
At the same time, you’ll have to prove your identity as well, proof you’re a resident of Hawaii and that you have the right to work in USA, and your social security card.
Your history as a driver during the past 10 years is also needed, and it includes Washington, D.C.
You’ll also have to pass a few tests, including the vision, knowledge and driving tests.
Do know these are not free, and that the driving one is made of 3 parts that you take at the same time, and you have to pass them all at the same time as well.
You can’t apply without the DOT 4-764 form and a passport-type photo.
Which School?
There are a few schools you can attend, and you have the possibility of becoming a diesel technician as well if you don’t want to become a driver.
The tuition is pretty affordable while scholarships are also easy to come by, though high school seniors are more likely to get them.

These schools offer multiple programs, and some of them even allow the students to choose up to 3.
You can obtain a Certificate of Completion or a Certificate of Achievement in about a year’s time, or go for the longer Associate’s Degree that lasts 2 years.
All the diesel technology programs offer plenty of hands-on experience, usually taking place in the school’s garage or lab.
To become a bus driver, you’ll need a special endorsement and the Class C driving license.
The Class C license is for single or combination vehicles that are meant to carry at least 16 people, with the driver.
