Wyoming ranks as the country’s second-least populated state.
Its main industries are tourism and mineral extraction, though the health sector doesn’t fall far behind.
Hospitals and other medical facilities rely on ultrasound technicians when it comes to offering the best care to their patients.
These professionals use specially designed equipment that takes pictures or records data from inside the body so that doctors can discover what they suffer from and how to heal them.

It’s expected that the demand for technicians operating ultrasound machines will grow at a pace of 10 openings per year.
The employers prefer candidates who obtained certification for the ultrasound field.
Getting certified though is not mandatory according to the state’s laws.
To earn certification, though, the candidate will have to first undergo some training through an accredited program and then pass the exam offered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
This is the most common route used for licensing, though others also exist.
The accreditation of the program must come from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP).
The certification has a validity of 2 years and can only be renewed if the professional can prove they completed 24 credits of continuing education.
This certificate is recognized at a national level.

There are 3 main types of credentials a student can obtain:
- a certificate or diploma, after 1 year of study
- an Associates’ degree, after 2 years of education
- a Bachelors’ degree, with 4 years of education
All these programs must also contain hands-on practice or internship, to grow familiar with the machines and work environment.
