New Jersey’s economy focuses on the pharmaceutical industry.
The demand for technicians that can operate sonographic equipment is on the rise.
This is a wealthy state, so the income is higher than in most other states as well, even when it comes to occupations such as ultrasound technicians.Annual Salary Range: Annual Salary by Location:

By law, ultrasound technicians don’t have to be licensed to work in this field, but employers are highly likely to reject those without credentials.
The most requested certification is the one by ARDMS or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
The easiest way of getting this license is by taking the exam, after completing a training course or program.
The exams are held through the Pearson Vue testing agency.
Those interested need to make sure the program they choose received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Depending on the institution selected for training, a scholarship might be available for some of the students.

Ultrasound Tech Courses
Capturing images of various body structures is easy for these technicians.
Their training includes topics like:
- Clinical Education in Sonography
- Sonographic Physics
- Obstetrical Sonography
- Special Topics in Sonography
Courses Offered in Sonography Programs
Sonography can be used all over the body, with the purpose of helping doctors set a diagnose.
They have to learn more about:
- Foundations of Sonography
- Abdominal Pathology
- Obstetrical Sonography
- Sonography Cases
MRI Tech Coursework
The MRI field uses cutting edge technology and can still grow.
Taking 3D images might be pretty easy, but not without studying the following:
- Radiography Pathology
- Patient Care
- Diagnostic Imaging
- Anatomy and Physiology
Vascular Sonography Classes
Blood vessels need to be healthy to carry the blood to all the organs.
Investigating them requires a great level of skill and attention to detail.
For this field, the technicians must study:
- Clinical Skills in Vascular Ultrasound
- Arterial Physiologic Procedures
- Ultrasound Physics
- Vascular Medical Terminology
Radiology Tech Coursework
Radiology can be used for several purposes.
Some of the classes include:
- Radiographic Patient Care
- Basic Radiographic Procedures
- Principles of Radiographic Imaging
- Radiographic Imaging Equipment
Coursework Requirements in Echo Tech Programs
Working exclusively with the heart is what echocardiograph techs do.
They must know more about:
- Echocardiography Fundamentals
- Cardiovascular Anatomy and Physiology
- Cardiovascular Imaging Physics
About 30% of the residents of New Jersey don’t speak English as their first language.
Future ultrasound technicians are advised to learn at least another language, to be able to communicate with these non-native English speakers.
Each of the above specializations offers the possibility of developing further skills in an, even more, niche medical practice.
It’s advisable to take extra Anatomy and Physiology classes before enrolling in any of the training programs, as this knowledge is more useful than general good grades in school.
