Getting Certified

In Indiana, like in many other states, it’s not mandatory to earn a license in order to get hired as an ultrasound tech.

It’s better to obtain one for employers will prefer those with certification, over those without one, especially considering the level of education of most residents of this state is lower than the national average.

The diploma is obtained by those who take and pass the ARDMS Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) test.

Yet, to be able to take this exam, candidates have to first complete an educational and training program that received accreditation from the CAAHEP DMS Accreditation Standards and Guidelines.

These programs generally award Associate’s degrees, though Bachelor’s and Master’s programs are also available.
