Getting Certified

At the moment, ultrasound technicians in Kansas aren’t required to have a license when working in this field.

It is a good idea to obtain one, as employers will prefer those with a certificate over those without one.

There’s a rather easy way to obtain a diploma, no matter the chosen sonography field.

Candidates have to enroll in a training program that received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

After that, those interested will have to pass the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) exam.

Sometimes, those who cannot meet the educational requirements can work in the field for up to one year, and then register to take the exam.

All the programs include training in a clinic, where the students get to learn how the equipment works, as well as other aspects of the future positions they’ll hold.

This clinical training is around 1500 hours long.

The courses will have common classes, such as anatomy, medical terminology, or physiology, among others.
