Requirements to Become a Pharmacy Technician
In Wyoming, to become a pharmacy technician you first need a high school diploma or GED.
Training in a pharmacy or formal school setting for this occupation is also needed in this state.
The schools most likely to offer such training programs are community colleges.
Some institutions have shorter programs than others.
The type of education offered doesn’t really matter, as both in-person and online classes are accepted.
Internships should also be part of the training curriculum.

It’s worth noting that some of the schools have minimum requirements when it comes to enrolling in any of their programs.
One such requirement is scoring at least mid-level on a math assessment test.
Obtaining a degree, such as an Associates, over a certificate increases your options when it comes to employment.
This includes the possibility of getting hired on the administrative positions in the pharmacy or drugstore.
Once your training is complete, you’re expected to pass a nationally recognized certification exam.
There are 2 such exams you can choose from:
- The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam
- The National Health Career Association exam (ExCPT)
Once you passed the exam and received your certification you’re also supposed to register with the Wyoming State Board of Pharmacy.
Only those with a clean criminal record will be accepted.
Those who registered need to renew their registration every year after completing 6 hours of continued education.

Those who work as pharmacy technicians usually complete the following tasks on a daily basis:
